Practice at Tantolunden this summer

Yay, it is summer time and we are now back practicing in Tantolunden. Swing by and have a listen! We’ll be there every Thursday between 6:00 pm-21:00 pm – if it is not raining that is. Walk eastward along the water from Tantolunden towards Skanstull, and you will find us, just a minute away.

We are happy to announce that Bar Brasil invited Baquetum to perform live at Fasching on april 21. We are really looking forward to this. Come and join us and enjoy our energetic rhythms!

After the live act, DJ Friedrichs Le Fox & DJ Wesley promise a club night with forró, maracatú, baião, axé-music, samba-reggae and lambada tunes.

Baquetum is back!

After having had a break last fall due to no place to practice at, we are now back. We are so excited about this, since we have been longing for our drums and the maracatu rhythms for a while now.

This spring, we will practice every Sunday at Midsommargården, Telefonplan 3 in Hägersten. Practice hours are 10:30- 14:30. Swing by and have a listen!

It was great fun to perform at Pride Parade this year – as always. This year, we chose to manifest against the oppression of the hbt people of Sudan by wearing white, green, red and black.

According to Stockholm Pride, 40 000 persons participated in the parade, and an estimated number of 350 000 people were out in the streets to watch the parade. We are proud to have been part of it! See more photos here.

Come and see us play at the Pride Parade on July 31! This is the fourth year that we will join the colorful parade with our energy and Brazilian rhythms.

Last year, the parade attracted a crowd of more than 350 000 people. Among the 35 000 parade particpants were Baquetum. ” I had goose bumps during the whole parade,” said a girl who walked ahead of us during the three hour long parade.

Tumaraca in Tantolunden

The spring/summer season has finally arrived here in Stockholm. That means a lot of drumming outdoors. We love it! Every Thursday ( if the weather allows) you can see and hear us practice in Tantolunden between 6 pm to approximately 9.30 pm – throughout the summer. Come and and enjoy the energetic rhythms!

Beginner’s course in Maracatu!

This coming fall, Baquetum is once again offering its popular beginner’s course in Maracatu! Don’t miss out on this opportunity. It was 1,5 years since we last held a course for beginners (we have been busy focusing on gigs and advancing our own skills).You will learn a lot about Maracatu, but will also learn other Brazilian rhythms such as afoxé, mangue beat, coco, samba reggae and funk.
The ensemble’s goal is to spread knowledge about these rhythms – and to spread joy. Everybody is invited – men, women, elderly, youngsters, musicians, beginners.

Maracatu Workshop in May

Baquetum recommends an upcoming maracatu workshop with Francisco Rocha Luna O Chicote in May. Francisco is a member of the Brazilian maracatu group Estrala Brilhante since ten years. He has practiced the Pernambuco rhythms for fifteen years with the most notable maracatu groups and is also one of the founders of the ensamble Riomaracatu. He has previously organized maracatu workshops in France, Italy, Brussels, Colombia et al. Now, it is time for Stockholm!

African-Brazilian Festival

Baquetum will once again visit “Föreningen Brasil Sverige” in Gothenburg to add energy, lots of African-Brazilian rhythms and joy to their party! This time, we are celebrating the Commemoration Day of Black Conscience at the Afro-Brazilian Festival. The program is stuffed with interesting lectures and debates about slavery and ancestry, musical performances, dance performances, poetry and more. The day will be rounded off with typical Brazilian dinner, feijoada, DJ Tiago and live music by Baquetum! For more information, read under Concerts.
